Sexually active women and men can chlamydia through sexual contact with an infected person. Chlamydia can be transmitted during vaginal, anal or oral sex. Since there are often no symptoms, people who are unknowingly infected, chlamydia can go to their sexual partners.
The bacteria that chlamydia infections can also be in the throats of people who have found the oral sex.
Only a doctor or nurse can diagnose chlamydia. There are laboratory tests to diagnose chlamydia. Some of these tests involve obtaining a sample from an infected site (cervix or penis) to detect the bacteria. A urine test can also tell if you have the bacteria.
Chlamydia is known as "silent" disease because 75 percent of infected women and at least half the people infected have no symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they will usually appear within 1 to 3 weeks after exposure. Symptoms, if any can also abnormal discharge or burning during urination. The infection is often not diagnosed or treated until there are no complications. If you think you have chlamydia or are concerned thatYou and your sex partner should consult a doctor immediately.
Men with symptoms may be released from the penis and a burning sensation when urinating. Men also may have burning and itching at the opening of the penis or pain and swelling of the testicles, or both.
Good luck! Hope this helps
